Nominations for 2024 General Election
Hi everyone, I am Rose Di Carlo the Chief Returning Officer and main contact point for your CUPE 4153 Election Committee, alongside Stephen Clarkin and Donna Clappison.
THE CUPE 4153 GENERAL ELECTION WILL BE HELD JUNE 20, 2024.
Positions open for nomination are President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Secretary-Treasurer, Chief Steward and 2 (two) Membership Officers and the 3-Year Trustee.
10 (ten) Shop Steward positions are also open for nomination.
Our Bylaws state: “Nominations will be accepted from members in attendance at the nomination meeting or from those members who have allowed their name to be filed in writing at the meeting, witnessed by another member.”
Our Election Committee has decided the following:
Nominations will be taken in person at our May 26th General Membership Meeting.
Nominations will also be taken by email but must be submitted before 10:00 am on May 26, 2024.
All nominees must be present at the GMM to accept or decline their nomination. If you know you will be nominated and are unable to attend the GMM, you must email the election committee and accept or decline the possible nomination(s) before 10:00 am on May 26th.
If a nomination is made and the nominee is not present, or has not submitted an email to accept the nomination, the nomination will be considered declined.

Results for January 18th By-Election
The members have voted to have Doug Thornberry serve as our new Membership Officer, and
Rita Angeloni to serve as our new 3-Year Trustee.

*Bill 124 Wage Settlement between OSBCU and Government/CTA*
Great news! OSBCU has reached a settlement with the Government and CTA regarding a compensation settlement over the Government’s illegal Bill124. Please read the below message from Laura Walton at OSBCU:

After a very long day of meetings, we are pleased to share that we have reached an agreement with the Crown and CTA regarding remedy for Bill 124.
We will be preparing more fulsome information for members in the coming days.
The ability of the OSBCU to reach this deal in a timely manner is directly related to the worker power that has been built over the last year and continues to build today.
Retroactive compensation increases will be: 0.75% for 2019-20, 0.75% for 2020-21, and an amount between 1.5% and 3.25% for 2021-22, as determined by an arbitrator. In addition to retroactive payments, wage rates in the 2022-2026 collective agreements be increased and all wage increases will be pensionable. Premiums and allowances will also be adjusted. These increases are in addition to the 1% that workers already received in the 2019-2022 collective agreements.

La capacité de le CSCSO à parvenir à cet accord dans les meilleurs délais est directement liée à la force des travailleurs qui s’est construite au cours de l’année dernière et qui continue de se développer aujourd’hui.

Local Tentative Agreement Ratified
Congratulations 4153! …97% have voted in favour of accepting the Local Tentative Agreement – together with the settlement at the Central table, we now have a Collective Agreement until Aug. 31/2026!!
